Automatic Levels

Automatic levels (or "auto levels") are professional optical instruments used to establish or verify points in the same horizontal plane. They are a standard tool in construction and surveying for measuring height differences and transferring elevations. Their "automatic" designation comes from an internal compensator—a pendulum-based mechanism that maintains a level line of sight even if the instrument is slightly tilted.
